The TIRELESS project addresses the intricate problem of variability in electronic devices and circuits and aims to solve challenges associated with reliability, security and energy efficiency, with a specific electronic system in mind: Internet of Things (IoT) type devices. edge. These are supported by nanoelectronic circuits and systems in nanometric CMOS technologies and, in the near future, beyond-CMOS technologies and devices. All of these technologies suffer from a plethora of variability-related phenomena, with multiple aspects relating to the above challenges. Inadequate management of the impact of variability acts against energy efficiency since guaranteeing certain benefits usually implies overdesign that includes, in most cases, additional energy consumption. Taking variability into account is also essential to extend the life of the integrated circuit and ensure reliability and safety. Last but not least, some of the variability phenomena can be exploited for lightweight cybersecurity solutions, essential in IoT edge devices. Therefore, this project addresses the improvement of reliability, cybersecurity and energy efficiency of IoT elements by exploiting new solutions for: characterization and modeling of devices in nano-CMOS and beyond-CMOS technologies, impact evaluation in circuits, circuit design, cryptographic hardware and new design paradigms.
